unnamed-2Have you ever been so busy before you work out that you A) Forget to eat or B) Grab the first thing in sight? Well if you could see me now, I am raising my hand to both of these. Before I worked out I always grabbed a granola bar and a bottled water and would eat it in the car on the way to the gym. That is if I remembered to grab them! However, when I sat down and chatted with the 12’s Founder Josh he quickly informed me that, that was a NO! NO!

Josh shared with me that “Your body needs fuel especially during high intensity exercise. Our bodies are highly dependent on carbohydrates for fuel during intense workouts. If it doesn’t have carbs readily available, it will go to the next best source of fuel which is muscle. If you are burning muscle in your workouts it will ultimately hurt you when it comes to lowering your overall body fat. In short—don’t miss those pre-workout carbs!”

Here is an example of what we should be eating Pre-Workout! Chocolate Oats

  1. Add 1/3 cup of Steel Cut Oats and 1/2 cup of water to a shaker cup.
  2. Put in microwave for 1 minute. Keep an eye on the cup making sure it doesn’t boil over. You may need to add a few seconds until the water just begins to boil depending on your microwave.
  3. Take the cup out of the microwave and add one scoop of chocolate protein powder. The cup will be hot.
  4. Fill the cup up with cold water.
  5. Put on the lid and shake until all the contents are well mixed.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

He was so knowledgeable and willing to answer EVERY question I had! I learned WHY I needed to eat right as well as what foods to eat and why. A lot of people get confused here, me included. For a long time I thought I was eating right but I wasn’t. Trainers in the past never really taught me the meaning of eating right and why it’s important. If we don’t understand why we need to eat right, we aren’t going to do it. Just like with anything else in life. This really got to me.

Being that I am “REALLY” pregnant, I haven’t tried a class. However, once Harper is here you better believe you will see me working out at The 12! I got to sit in on one of the sessions and it looked like so much fun. It was electrifying just being in the room. I wanted to jump up and join in! I haven’t seen anything like this in OC.
