“Building a healthy plate is easy with veggies and fruits!” Registered Dietician Sarah Hall from Kaiser Permanente, Orange County said. One of the great things when visiting a local Farmers Market is, you get to see everything that has been locally sourced and in season. Meaning it is as fresh as can be and more than likely just removed from the fields and chemical free. When you first arrive, walk through the whole Farmers Market and see what the vendors are offering. If you see something new, or something you would like to try, most time the vendors are more than happy to give you a sample to taste. I am a very picky eater and if I haven’t tried or eaten it previously, I probably won’t eat it. However, when walking around the Farmers Market I was handed samples left and right. This allowed me to get out of my box and let my taste buds discover something new! Once you have taken in the whole market, now it is time to go back and buy. By this time you are probably a little full so you won’t over indulge and you will get the necessary ingredients for your healthy meal or meals.
Shopping at the Farmers Market is a great way to keep yourself on track as a majority of things you will find are good for you. Fresh fruit or veggies for instance which you will find in prevalence and the farmers market are great for snacks or sides to your protein of choice. Things like nuts such as almonds are also great for a mid day pick me up.
My best piece of advice is to be mindful of what you put in your body. It is ok to splurge with something sweet every once in a while but eating healthy is part of lifestyle which provides a plethora of long term benefits.
